Airbus tests UBTech humanoid robots for aircraft assembly • Межа
Chinese company UBTech Robotics has signed a deal with European aircraft manufacturer Airbus to supply humanoid robots for production floors. Under the terms of the deal, Airbus has purchased a Walker S2 robot and will work with the developer to study how humanoids can support aircraft production, SCMP reports.
Walker S2 is specially designed for industrial use: it is about 1.75 meters tall, has hands and a vision system that allows it to navigate in space and move like a human. The robot can carry up to 15 kg, coordinate movements, recognize objects and adapt to various tasks on production lines.
One of the key features is an autonomous battery replacement system that allows robots to work continuously, without long pauses for recharging. This is especially important for “smart” factories with a continuous production cycle. Walker S2 is already used by BYD and Foxconn. As of the end of December 2025, 1,000 of these humanoids were manufactured.
The partnership with Airbus will be an important step in testing robots in challenging manufacturing environments that require high precision and reliability. UBTech’s previous agreements, including with Texas Instruments, have shown growing interest in humanoid robots in the aviation, semiconductor and automotive industries.
UBTech was founded in 2012 in Shenzhen and became the first Chinese humanoid robotics startup to go public in Hong Kong in 2023. Last year, the company received orders worth $201 million, and this year it plans to ship tens of thousands of industrial robots.
